Hi! Love the map project. You are a true fictional cartographer at heart.

I was wondering if you could provide at least an outline sketch, if not a fully animated historiography in 3D or 4D, of the movement of the global land mass over centuries and mellennia (before and after the time period in which the mods are to take place)?
Something like this:

If possible, thanks in advance! This would help with conceptualizing the setting and time-frame in world events for future mod development and pre-writing. For example, it would be easier to understand and explain why Drow arose on the south-eastern sub-continent, or to dream of what type of creatures may inhabit the Southern barrier islands.

I find your question fascinating. I never would have expected that one didn't you know the world is flat?

okay. I don't have the capability to actually illustrate it, however If you look at the continental topography and shape some of this information can be extrapolated.. for example the dwarven region could very well fit in with the mountainous segment half way down the left side of the supercontinent. The primary island (curently only shown in the downloadable map, which is too large for mosworkshop to handle) is on it's own techtonic plate, the mountains on the right side of the barbarian main area and the mainland would have aligned slightly.

the small on the right of the supercontinent is anomolous in the fact there is no noticible reason for it to be there, however there is a spot where it could be rotated into the mainland - allowing for centuries of erosion. the lower island set on the bottom left are a different matter entirely. They were once a part of the mainland, until a cataclysm was caused by ancient magics released about 10 thousand years earlier. The land between the continent and that region was swallowed up by the sea. However, the volcanic island in the same region is a fairly new one - only 5000 years old, and slight dragon infested.

the island south of the desert empire can be rotated diagonally left into the mainland.. but once again theres hundreds of thousands of years of erosion there.

To get a timeline I'd need a formula to calculate the effects of erosion on the coastline, which I am lacking.
As for the island set to the lower right.. now aligning them would take some serious work, but it can be done..

this is a fantasy world, so time is thought of in smaller increments..

The drow are where they are because they were exiled for alledgedly sifding with the ancient dark force during the wars of the long dark (spoiler info avail for drow leader only)

maybe this will help a little

It's still a fairly young world.

the green designate where landmases had been (top the main barbarian island, and bottom the sunken land)

the orange are rough estimates of the location of techtonic plates.

It begs a question about the desert area... Should there be one, or shouldn't there? If it is a continent, it would have to be a small one, and located on a northern hemisphere, in order for the south to be warmer. And if it indeed is a young world, would there be a chance for a desert to form? Hmmm...

Oh, what size is the world? Nobody would like to see a game in which you travel a year from one side of the continent to another :-) and you get one random encounter wink.gif

Actually there is a fairly large desert area (roughly 1/6th of the supercontinent), which is located in the south central region.

This region became desert due to over-farming actually.. during the time proceeding the long dark the southern desert empire was an agricultural nature.. they ground they farmed became infertile in the unending sunlight, and was eventually became the desert it is today.

The desert empire is one of the evil empires in the game. (LE)
