Tortured Souls is a new BG2-add-on, adding 5 new joinable NPC's, Valygar-romance for females in both SoA & ToB, and a new quest on the road to Spellhold. It also adds a Sime-romance for male/females, multi-stronghold for some classes, slightly improved Twisted Rune, and some new items.

Note, this isn't an item/romance/banter-walkthrough, so don't expect a listing of where the "cool" sword or whatever is hidden.
The only items listed is game-critical & permanently ability-increasing tomes/potion.

1: New NPC's.

a: Sime - female half-elf, Cleric/Ranger, chaotic good. Found in Aran Linvail's hideout if you're working for the shadow-thieves in Chapter 3. Romancable for both male/females, but the female-romance is shorter.

b: Kachiko - female human, Kensai dualed to Mage, chaotic good. Found just before exit of Irenicus' Dungeon. Needed to play main quest, can't be separated from Yoshimo.

c: Coran - male elf, fighter/thief, chaotic good. Found in Forest of Tethir that is accessible from chapter 2 in BP, but not before chapter 6 in TS. Quest to find him kicks off if you've got Jaheira in party when entering the Adventurer's Mart.

d: Dynaheir - female human, Invoker, lawful good. Only awailable if you've got both Sime & Minsc in the party... Watch and see for yourself that happens.

e: If working for Bodhi in Chapter 3, she can join you in part of the main plot (see 2m). Bodhi is unkillable for the duration she's in the party.

2: Main Quest.

NOTE: If joining Bodhi in Chapter 3, you must have Yoshimo in your party all the time from before choosing Bodhi till going for Spellhold, since otherwise he disappears and you can't do the main quest... But you can this way manage to have only Kachiko in your party - just remember to kill her before leaving for Spellhold, since otherwise you'll get stuck at the dock.

To get the main quest, you MUST have both Yoshimo & Kachiko in your party when going to Spellhold.

If you haven't got both, or you go directly to Spellhold, the main quest is inaccessible.

a: 1st time you meet Kachiko, you must be good to her, or she attacks, ruining the main quest. Also, if Yoshimo is dead at the time, she can go hostile.

b: Yoshimo will romance Kachiko, and they must either be kicked out as a pair, or kept alive as a pair... Yes, you need also to keep them alive, since apart for the main quest on the island, Yoshimo has a tendency to commit hara-kiri without Kachiko, and Kachiko has a tendency to leave.

If kicked out as a pair, make sure that you kick Yoshimo out first, so that both head to the Copper Coronet in Slums district. There is a bug in Kachiko's leave party script, so that if you kick her out first, she and Yoshimo will go to the Sea's Bounty Tavern but they will *not* be available to rejoin the party.

c: When you're ready to head for Spellhold, remember to have both Yoshimo & Kachiko in the party, and both alive. When Saemon Havarian shows up and you are waiting to board the ship for Spellhold, all is as normal til you're done talking. Then Kachiko says "Wait a minute... " After a couple of dialogues, you've got 2 choices. Choice 1 will take you to ther main TS-questl Choice 2 is direct to Spellhold. If you take this, Kachiko & Yoshimo leave, and the main TS-quest is over...

d: A new soundless text-cut is shown, and you arrives at one of BG1's coast-maps... with 2 additions. Saemon stays on board the ship, but Sime can join you... even if Sime is already in the party - so you can have two Sime's if you wish. You can collect a third Sime when you finally arrive in Brynnlaw, should you so choose.

e: Feel free to wander around the whole map/ You will see numerous corpses, 2 alive people, some bodies of "familiar" people, and maybe a couple of ghosts, before you enter a big Castle (you can't miss it). Inside, talk to Aino Hashimoto. One of the living is Masaki Hayashi, who you will be seeing more of...

f: After speaking with Aino Hashimoto and being brought up to speed on what is going on, head back outside and head North-East, where you will meet Masaki Hayashi, if you haven't already. If you talked to him before entering the castle, he'll teleport in. In either case, when you've done talking, he'll abduct Kachiko, and you must battle 3 Nakanishi Guards. After the battle is over, a girl (Alome) approaches, and gives Yoshimo a rope, so he must be alive to continue. Note that Alome is unable to see invisible creatures, so if Yoshimo is invisible or hiding in shadows, Alome will not appear.

g: Use the rope Alome gives you to enter the 2nd addition to the map, the "Fighting Pit"... where you arrive on BG1-Durlag Tower's Chess-map. Note, you can't climb back up...

h: The same rules apply for this chessboard as for the one in BG1 - ie, you must abide the rules of chess or face the consequences... After winning, collect everything, and head out the one-way-door.

i: You enter a small room, with a closed door. Head forward, through 2 doors, and talk to Najoki. You may have to talk to her several times; keep doing so until she gives you a Raise Dead-scroll.
IF PLAYING EVIL: kill Najoki, and pick up the scroll.

NOTE: if you needs to rest, use this small map... since most of the rest of TS has unlimited spawning of monsters, or you can't rest at all...

j: Head back out the way you entereed this room to... another room, not the chessboard. Hit the switch. In the middle of the room, Masaki Hayashi is standing, taunting you. However, the whole circle in the middle of the room contains multiple un-removable traps... but of course if you've set all off, they're removed...

k: There are 3 exits, each of which are trapped; but if you're not collecting all the Potions of Action Transference, you only need take the west-exit.

BODHI: If you worked for Bodhi and wants to have the opportunity to pick her up, MAKE SURE IT'S NIGHT BEFORE LEAVING THIS MAP FOR THE 1ST TIME. Go back to the Najoki-room (see 2i) to sleep if needed.

l: If you took the correct exit, you are standing in the south-west-corner of a map, with an altar & a chest.
The way to go is VERY difficult to see, but walk between the chest and the entrance, and you should soon see the opening... Several exits in TS are difficult to find: this is one such exit. it *is* there though, between the chest and the entrance, so keep looking...

Optional:
On this map, there are many altars & chests. Every altar has a Potion of Action Transference, but needs a key to open. The keys is in the chests... that triggers different Elementals... The last altar is on the east-part of this map, but to access, you must go back to the previous map, and take the north exit.
Note, if you've got all potions, head for the south-west-altar (there you entered), and change all the potions for a permanent + 1 Intelligence & non-permanent +5 Magic Resistance(*) and no negative transference. see [http://www.vladp.net/faq.html] for a map displaying the complete postion-quest solution.

m: Appart for where you entered, there are 3 other exits on this map. 1 is at the middle of the map, x=2126 y=1532 if you wants to take a look on the undestructible chromatic dragon(**)...
The 2 usable exits are north & south of the dragon-exit, at the ends of the map.
The "easiest" way to use is the north exit...

BODHI: If you worked for Bodhi, you can pick her up between the dragon-exit & the north exit.

Unfortunately, it looks like she thinks she's outside, so only will appear at night... It seems she will not appear later either if you entered this map at the wrong time of day.

n: The south exit lands you in the south-west corner of this map, while the north exit lands you in the north. This map is TT0305, and also contains the exit when you are done with TS. This exit, at x=350 y=1250, is another difficult to find exit - so keep looking if it doesn't seem apparent at first.

If you walk from the south-west corner, you must pass some undead samurais standing in a circle of stones...these can be dangerous for you and your party, but should be manageable. There are some golem-type monsters on the western side of this area, guarding some decent treasure.

Extra:
A chest, x=352 y=2104, just west for the stone-circle, has a BG1-tome of +1 dexterity.

The exit to continue to the next map is atx=1277 y=1350. From the south entrance, head north. From the north entrance, head west, then south. You'll know when you find this exit - your favorite tormentor Masaki Hayashi is standing outside...

o: You now enter an IWD-map. To exit this map you needs a key, so head east after the bridge, and ready yourself for the final battle with Masaki Hayashi(***). Collect the key from his corpse, and continue.
The exit is in the room with all the statues and the round table, in the north-west corner.

p: The last map. Another IWD map, also used in one of the TDD quests. There are some Purang Berserkers here, and some (trapped) treasures. Attempting to sleep will spawn another 3 Purang Berserkers indefinitely.

BODHI: If you've got Bodhi in your party, she'll unfortunately leave on entering this map.

You don't need to clean out the whole map, but you should clean out the way to the north-east corner "This passage is magically sealed..."

Afterwards, head south, and clean out going west. Make sure to keep Yoshimo out of sight, til you've found the right spot, in the south-west corner of the map. You've hit the right spot then you see 3 men, a white casket, and Kachiko lying on the side.
When Yoshimo is seen, a dialogue is triggered and one of the party (of your choosing) is teleported to a pit-fight... It is worth choosing someone who can dual-weild katanas for this battle, as whoever is chosen arrives in the pit with no equipment, and only some (unusable) katanas(****)... or fists.
MAKE SURE the person to battle with is seen by Hitomi before Yoshimo triggers the talk, since a person unseen by Hitomi can't do this battle...

MULTIPLAYER: If you're playing multiplayer, it's ONLY the main character that can do the pit-battles, due to a bug. Of course, this can be used in your favour.

q: When the 1st pit-battle is done, exit (drop the katanas before exit - attempting to leave the pit with one of the katanas in the inventory will result in instant death for the character), and head back to the casket. You should now probably exit this map, sleep, and do the 2nd battle. The second battle is much harder, since you get bombarded with Stunning Blow, Kai, and you can't hit back since needs +3-weapons or better to hit.
BTW, death ward is your friend in this battle - your opponent will be making liberal use of quivering palm.

r: If you've survived the 2nd pit-battle, head back to the casket, talk to Hitomi and he will commit hari-kiri. In evil path you can choose to battle him if you like. Note that killing Hitomi, rather than letting him die with honour, will irrevocably ruin your relationship with Kachiko when she comes back to life...

GOOD path: Raise Kachiko with the Raise Dead scroll, collect your equipment, the exit key & equipment from Hitomi, and open the casket. You'll get a Tome of Understanding +1 Wisdom, amongst other things...
EVIL path: Raise Kachiko, but because you killed Najoki (in 2j) she goes hostile and brings some help... After killing, collect equipment just like in good path. Note, Yoshimo will probably suicide, but when you've raised him again he should stop this behaviour.

s: If you want, you can more closely look over the different maps/caves... or head for the exit...
To go to the exit, go back 2 maps... to TT0305.

From here, head north, and go up to the north exit but don't exit here.
From this exit, head straight west till you hits the north-west corner. x=350 y=250. From here, head straight south... and you'll see the exit at y=1250

Exiting, you'll being dumped at another BG1-coastal-map. Just head south, and you meet Saemon Havarian. Enter the ship, and exit to Spellhold. To manage to exit, Yoshimo must be alive here.

t: This is the end of Tortured Souls main quest.
GOOD path: When entering Spellhold, instead of Yoshimo leaving as traitor, you can keep him and Kachiko in your party.
When you enter Forest of Tethir in Chapter 6, Yoshimo will leave, and you will not get him back before entering Saradush Tavern in Chapter 8 (ToB).
EVIL path: Yoshimo progress just like in standard SoA when reaching Spellhold.

3: Other things...

Multiple Strongholds: Multi-class-characters can get all strongholds corresponding to their classes. Paladins/Rangers can get Nalia's keep (de'arnise Hold) in addition to their normal stronghold.

Sime has several quests related to her romance; one there 3 vampires shows up, and one will teleport you back to the TS island to kill the dragon (see 2m).

From the look of things, in both Sime-romance & Valygar-romance, if you reaches Spellhold too soon the romance terminates prematurely.

------------------------

End-notes:
TS has altered the Ring of Free Action. If you don't like the new performance, delete ring09.itm from the override-folder.

* The +5-magic-resistance from the resulting potion isn't permanent, since someone has chosen the wrong setting. Just try giving to an NPC, kill him and resurrect/raise dead, and the NPC haven't got the resistance any longer.

** The Chromatic Demon is unkillable, until such time as you are romancing Sime and you get teleported back there.

*** If Yoshimo is dead at the time, you can kill the previous versions of Masaki Hayashi, getting XP and the key, and without him going hostile. ;D

**** In the Pit-battles, there are four Elemental Katanas +3. All are unusable by Paladins, Druids, Mages, Clerics, Monks and Evil Characters.
Further, they've got these individual requirements:
Air Elemental: 16 Dexterity
Fire Elemental: 17 Strength/Dexterity, not for Chaotic/Lawful alignments.
Water Elemental: 16 Wisdom/Charisma.
Earth Elemental: 16 Constitution.
