xan's ability test Options

hello.
i'm playing v6.8 in a big world install

aerie is able to charm sharia and xan recognizes it. then i'm not sure what is supposed to happen.
all i see is what i believe to be a teleportation animation on aerie but i dont go anywhere.
cant select any character including aerie who is not on screen (to be clear the screen remains in the same place where i performed the charm) and according to the log sees hostile creatures and is attacked (and eventually dies since i cant do anything).
