I know it was a pretty cruddy game compared to the IE games but some of the area art is pretty good and has the same or similar feel to bg etc. Does anyone know how to extract the art for the areas from POR:ROMD; or has anyone already done this?

I don't have the game, but usually if I don't know how to extract area picture files, I just play through, make screenshots and then put them together, so the border pixels match exactly. Have to kill all creatures in the area, because sometimes they won't move around
