I did use the latest Big World Setup to install all of these mods. Spell Revisions and Spell Pack are doing well together, thanks to their hard work!

First off, great mod Galactygon!

Thanks for the praise! I'm sorry about the delay, I've been very busy in RL these past few months/years, but will hopefully have time to sort things out come December.

I love this mod so much that I've gone through great lengths just to fix this minor issue - I will not settle for anything less! I could go on about how I love this mod, but I'm not here to buy your help with flattery dammit! happy.gif

Thank you so much for your hard work, it makes my job much easier. Could you attach the relevant mod files changed by SpellPack so that I can recreate the issue?

Here is my WeiDU.log... *WARNING... LONG*
...

I don't see SpellPack on your posted log, but am assuming it's installed right before SCS and tweak packs, but after all other spell-introducing mods.

Just today I went through and sorted the TDD spells to work with LC and SellRev. By this I mean the player-learnable spells, the ones that can appear in your selection list.

Whereas with Spell Revisions I had many TDD spells overwritten, with LC and its nicer use of ADD_SPELL it's just a few duplicates. It's a BP-based patch I have, but what it will do is:

1) If LC is already installed, BP will change the TDD-duplicates into lvl 1 innates (i.e., not in the spellbook any more)
2) If BP is installed before LC, it changes the TDD spell.ids entries to match the LC identifiers. This should have LC installing to the same spot and overwriting the TDD spell duplication. Nobody needs two version of Static Charge, e.g.

Spell.IDS entries are also jostled around, changed/added/deleted as needed. ADD_SPELL used whereever it was fitting and could do the job. It seems limited in the number of spells it can patch in, even if there's a wide open field of slots in a given level. I also wrote cludgy workaround code to handle these cases.

It also handles Spell Revisions either before or after BP, but that was much messier code work--trust me. While Spell Revisions might be a well-made mod, it's a blatant overwriter of other files--almost always unnecessarily. In dire need of advanced tp2 coding techniques. Vanilla spells can be patched, custom spells can be ADD_SPELL 'ed. Even a 6-year-retired modder like myself was able to figure it out easily enough. I'm not sure why a compatibility mod like the BWP would highly recommend it, as it stands.

Now, this brings me to what I was actually aiming to do (shocking how many little things prevented it). I wish to include the LC custom spells in the BP Series party AI. Putting them in is "simple" enough, but as LC requires Spell() instead of SpellRES() I have to account for whether LC is installed or not. With that check, I REPLACE_TEXTUALLY my scripts to/from Spell() and SpellRES() where needed. Missing SpellRes() resouces just give minor errors, where missing IDS entries in Spell() triggers & actions throw major compiler errors.

So...is there a file you can recommend to use as an LC identifier in another tp2 file?

Thanks,
Horred

P.S: What exactly are you doing with traps? BP was the mod that added the first series of 'enemy rogue traps' along w/ AI to set them, and it's not broken as it stands. Forgive me for being paranoid about them, but I have other reasons for installing BP after LC to weigh against. A working REGEXP-based disease-detection (for scripts) system, to name one.

Horred, I strongly recommend you read this thread here before you get too much work done. I've started an initiative to standardize community-wide spells, so that duplicates can be eradicated, and more robust spell mods could automatically overwrite identical spell mods. I've contacted many of the mod authors, who were enthusiastic about the initiative, but a year has passed and they are onto other things.

I've been less diligent in marketing SpellPack (which is still officially in beta) because (a.) I would like to settle into an established and reliable mod/install structure first and (b.) events in RL have kept me busy the past few years.

SpellRev makes less radical changes by mostly altering the numbers (which can be done with patching), while SpellPack makes more radical and fundamental changes which have more risk in them. I try to patch where I could, but knowing that people will not agree with all of my changes, I've made it as modular as possible.

Last time I checked, SpellRev's code hasn't been updated since 2009. They have plenty of code restructuring to do.

Thank you so much for your support; I really appreciate this, and I will help you as much as possible. I was planning to do some sort of guide for AI modders, but that doesn't mean we couldn't cobble one together as you go. Because SpellPack is extremely modular, I suggest you approximate with same-level-similar placeholder spells where possible (ie. Sphere of Chaos vs. SpellPack's Charm Plants) or dumbed-down versions of the SpellPack spells (like TDD). I've gone to great lengths to implement everything in extreme detail, hence the patching of thousands of files tailored to each spell, and I would like to be able to handle future changes to patching efficiently myself. Otherwise, I have no qualms if you wish to borrow some stuff, just let me know.

SpellPack is meant to be installed after all spell/item/area/quest mods, but before any AI/tweak packs.

Yes, go to override/LCLIST_SPELLS.2da which lists all the spells that are installed at the time. First column is equivalent to IDS number, second column is IDS symbol, third column is spell filename, and fourth column is scroll filename (used by aTweaks' scribe scroll).

There are hardcoded engine limitations about traps casting spells. First, summon creature called through a 177 crashes the game. Second, opcode 148 (target self) does not work with traps. I go around this by having them summon invisible .cres, which do the work for them. ToBEx fixes 177 (was a memory leak), but atm 148 (and 146) are not fixed. I will be removing this as fixes to the hardcoded engine appear.

Note that this means detectable cloud spells' summon creature will either have to be summoned with a puff of smoke or crash the game if 177 (with no animation) is used.

Thanks Galactygon!

That was all I needed to get started. I use your IDS entries with an IDS_OF_SYMBOL check to see if they're present, and if not I REPLACE_TEXTUALLY your identifier with a similar/innocuous vanilla spell ID. Ones I can't handle that way, such as the recycled entries (e.g. wraith form) I check for LCLIST_SPELLS.2da present-in-game instead.

I'm all for the community approach, as you probably could guess from my previous work. But I remember all-too-well how it went with the original BP compat mod, and trying to get the community to budge. "The spirit is willing..." In the end, once I broke up the megamod--I suppose that could be interpreted as "years of work for nothing". But it helped inspire the community to think about each other's work more, mods to try & play nice together, and for weidu to improve to what it is today. Also why there's a BWP installer these days. Not a waste at all, considering that.

I've essentially got my "compatibility" work done, at least what I was aiming for (the old "Big Mods" and SpellPack/SpellRev). If the community does its part I'll gladly delete part/all of this code and do it the proper way. But for now, I've cleared the board and I'm ready to start scripting LC spells into BP-Series. smile.gif
